CAMP PIONEER STAFF PHOTOGRAPHS
Camp Pioneer, on the northeast side of Massawepie Lake, was Massawepie's first camp to open after the property was purchased
by the Otetiana Council in 1951. It operated from 1952-1970, then shut down after Forester opened and the baby boom subsided.
In 1976 Camp Voyageur began transitioning toward Pioneer, which reopened for one year for Massawepie's 25th anniversary in
1977, then closed again when it was decided to keep Mountaineer open instead. However, in 2000 Mountaineer closed and the
newly refurbished Camp Pioneer reopened. Pioneer remains Massawepie's operating camp today, and now uses much of the
former Camp Voyageur's territory and buildings as well. Thanks to Jim Whitcomb, Peter Collinge, Mark Ferraro, Bill Finan, Kendall Smith,
